Maureen Watts

Pots – Paintings – Prints – Textiles

In Loving Memory, 1952–2024

This collection of artwork spans Maureen's artistic career from 1982 to 2024. The Flamboyant Strawberry Bowl is the earliest work, a piece she created at Ballarat College of the Arts and her most recent is the linocut, Convent Girls at Nun's Beach and the crocheted lace Peacock Evening Bag. Her love of family, storytelling and nature can be heard loud and clear through this exhibition. She celebrated the joy of living in everything she made.

Some of these works are her finest creations, delicately crafted and intricately designed. Some are the joyous domestic everyday objects lent for the exhibition from private collections and some are the ones that didn't quite turn out right and ended up being used at home. You will see signs of wear and tear here and there from a life of loyal service.

For every piece of pottery you see here there are hundreds of similar pieces out there in private collections across the country, though each and every one is unique.
